After the Scuffle in the Mopane the pride could not be found. We assume they spent the weekend in the Bodumatau area. To our relief we managed to locate them this morning, all together, sleeping in the shade by Jesse’s Pools. Both the males were with them.
We had been concerned about the welfare of the cubs, who when we left them on Friday, had been separated from the lionesses, who in turn had been routed by the three interlopers. They must have managed to meet up that night or the next day.
From their scrawny appearance it is clear that they still haven’t managed to kill and eat anything substantial. Now that both males are with them and the pride numbers 12 individuals, they will need find prey at least the size of a buffalo if they are all to feed. Unfortunately the buffalo herd is nowhere in sight, having headed far to the east past Paradise and out of the Xakanaxa pride territory. Clearly the hard times for these females are not over yet.
