Dead Tree Island is the most iconic area in Moremi.
It has a special feel about it, which I have felt nowhere else.
A theory is that many years ago the area was dry and this gave the Mopane and Leadwood trees the opportunity to grow into the giants they are. Then the water levels rose and the trees drowned. Leaving this awe-inspiring landscape.
Elephants do not normally frequent the island and are normally only seen transversing it, but this afternoon they were feeding on the new grass shoots and the bullrushes fringing the northern edge.
If there is one place to see the setting sun, it would have to be from Dead Tree.
